My right ears have kept ringing since 2002 (sounds like heart beat). In April 2008, I found two vessels were prominent on both sides of my forehead. I went to see the home doctor two days ago, he told me it’s AVM. I did a MRI of my brain in 2006 but they found nothing wrong. I’m going to have MRI and MRA again in next week. Before I have the tests, I wonder if anybody here has the same symptoms as me. Also, anybody knows what is the difference between AVM and DAVM? The symptoms and treatments are very similar for them.
Hey Andy! The ringing in your ears is most likely a "bruit’ which is what you hear when there is extra blood flowing through a vessel at high pressure. If you can feel the pulse by touching that area, it is refered to as a thrill. Both very common outward signs of AVM’s.
I just got back from my latest embo so I aplogize in advance for the short post! But check out this earlier forum discussion with Gavin who was getting the run around a little. I had looked up DVA then and had some links posted. It wouldn’t hurt to follow that a little and see what you come up with!
Hang in there. Make sure you start a “qestion journal” now so you are prepared to ask all the questions when you go in for the MRI. Give yourself the tools to understand this condition and to get the answers you need to be able to make an informed decision.
Good Luck! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out!

Hello Shalon! Thanks for your reply. I did read much useful information from the website you posted in a previous thread. I think I need to stop worrying about it before I finish the MRI and MRA tests. I hope the test results will give me a clearly answer for these symptoms I have.
I wish you have a wonderful Easter holiday!

hi andy,
i had a very loud bruit…i would hear what sounded like a washing machine…in the right side of my head/ear every time i would lay down or become stressed…doctors would be able to hear it just by placing a stethescope over my right eye it used to keep me awake at night and make it difficult to fall asleep
I also get that heartbeat sound in my ear as well as some ringing on occasion. I was recently diagnosed with a 3x4 cm avm on my left parietal lobe. I am being treated, I had two embolizations and will have stereotactic radiation in the near future. Keep us posted!! Hope all goes well for you.
Alicia, my ringing sounds like wind blowing. Thank god, it is not loud enough to make me awake during midnight. I think it somewhat impair my hearing, so I sometimes ask people repeat their saying…Anyway, I hope I can find out the truth after I finish all my tests. Then I should know how to deal with it…

Thank you, Rachel. Do you have heartbeat sound in your two ears? I used to have it in my two ears, but recently I found out the sound was gone in my left ear…so weird

I, too had pulsatile tinnitus (heart beat sound in ear) The first embo I had cleared that up, but the AVM has yet to be obliterated after numerous embos and 3 Gamma Knife procedures. Good luck to you, keep positive
