Looking for Opinion on NYC Doctor(s)

I’ve never “blogged” before so hopefully I do this right. This past Tuesday my 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with AVM on the right side of her brain. That day we saw a Neuro-Interventional Radiologist in Manhattan by the name of Alex Berenstein. We all were very impressed and like him very much. From what we’ve heard he’s “the best” but we’re trying to gather as much objective feedback as possible. He’s sending us to a Neuro-Opthamologist (Dr. Kupersmith) and a Pediatric Vascular Neurologist (Dr. Molofsky) to get a more complete picture. From there they’ll collaborate and make a recommendation for treatment.

Does anybody have any feedback on these 3 doctors?

Thanks,
Mary

I too have been told Berenstein is the best in the country. He trained my wife’s Dr (Rossenwasser) from Jefferson who is also highly regarded.

I think you are in the right spot

Hi Mike,
I’m so glad to receive your positive feedback on Dr. Berenstein. We like him so much…my daughter with the AVM who just turned 13 loved him and that means so much. At the same time, we wanted to make sure we were looking at him objectively. We decided we are staying with Dr. B. My daughter Jaime is scheduled for an Angiogram/Embolization with Dr. Berenstein on Monday, 7/13. She’s also scheduled for a surgical removal of the AVM on the following day Tues. 7/14 with a pediatric Neurosurgeon named Dr. Saadi Ghatan. We’re all very nervous but feel satisfied that we’re in the right place.

I looked at your profile page and I’m sorry about all that you and your wife have been going through. I’d never heard of an AVM until this past May (2 days after Mothers Day…!#$!#)…I’ll say a prayer for your wife…that’s the most important thing we can all do. Also, I read a post on your page from a woman whose daugher has a facial AVM. I think she’d been asking you if Dr. Rossenwasser dealt with AVMs other than the ones on the brain. I don’t know the answer to that but if it helps, when we were at Dr. Berenstein’s there was a beautiful little girl in the waiting room with a facial AVM. I’m not sure if she’s looking for a second opinion or not but I’d recommend Dr. B.

I just read your profile about your wife. I’m so sorry this has been such a long drawn out situation for you. We’re
